Border 2 Border Cycling Challenge, 2016

t gives us great pleasure to announce that Panoramic Doors will be one of the proud sponsors of the 2016, Border 2 Border Cycling Challenge, and let me tell you, when it comes to a challenge, it doesn’t get much tougher than this!  Between June 12th and June 22nd, 18 cyclists, all top performing executives will embark upon one of the toughest journeys of their lives.  The charity itself holds special bearing to the staff here at Panoramic Doors, and especially with company owner, Alan Rees.  With over 30 years experience in the UK Window & Door Industry, Alan has formed solid friendships and successful business endeavors with some of this year’s participants, all of which are still around to this very day!

Let’s take a minute to talk about this year’s route.  Traveling inland, the B2B Team kicks off in Vancouver then heads west into the Cascade Mountains, this section alone will take two days!  The remainder of the challenge covers the Colombian Plateau before descending into the Sacramento Valley.  South of San Francisco, the route follows the Pacific Coast before heading into the San Joaquim Valley, climbing from sea level to 5,000 feet across the Southern Sierra Nevada into the Mohave Desert.  The cyclists will then cross the San Antonio Mountains, drop into the San Bernardino Valley before heading into the Anza Borrega Desert.  The final stretch is a 4200 foot climb over the Laguna Mountains, and into Tijuana.  Wait, there’s more!  If that wasn’t enough the 2016 B2B team will be faced with some of the most treacherous and unpredictable weather conditions; being a former ‘desert-dweller’ myself, I know all too well that the temperature rarely drops below 40°C.

With more than 90,000 feet of climbing this is set to be the most grueling GM Fundraising Cycling Challenge ever!

After months of dedication and the strictest of training regimes, the team is well on their way to reaching their target.  Here’s how it works, every team member is required to raise £3,500 per person in sponsorship funds; this coupled with funds from kit sponsorship and the headline sponsor, the target for Border 2 Border 2016 is £100,000.  Here’s where it gets really awesome, all proceeds… as in every single penny goes to a fantastic cause, namely ‘Hope House Children’s Hospices‘, an organization providing palliative care for kids with terminal conditions.  All team members will cover their own personal costs associated with the trip, allowing GM Fundraising the ability to donate 100% of proceeds to this worthy cause, pretty cool right?

As the big event draws closer, everyone here at Panoramic Doors is on the final countdown and doing our very best to drive final donations!  You can show your support and help any or all of this year’s participants reach their targets by clicking on the donation link below.
